We don’t often think of proofs as a source of major die varieties, but a surprising number of proof varieties exist in the Liberty Seated Dollar series. One of the most obvious occurred on the reverse die used to strike proofs in 1872 and 1873, our 1872 PA reverse. This die is strongly doubled.
